Fault Line (“the App”) is a community infrastructure reporting platform operated by Moonlit Social Labs. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

1. Data we collect

Information you provide

• Account information: Email address (if you create an account). You may also report anonymously.
• Reports: Category, description, severity ratings, and photos/videos you attach to infrastructure reports.
• Votes: Upvotes and confirmations on community reports.
• Video testimonials: Optional 15-second videos you choose to record about infrastructure issues.

Information collected automatically

• Location: GPS coordinates when you submit a report. This is essential to pinpoint the infrastructure issue. We only access your location when you actively use the reporting feature or opt into proximity alerts.
• Device sensors: Accelerometer data to detect potential road impacts. This data is processed on-device only and never transmitted to our servers.
• Commute patterns: If you opt into smart notifications, we track frequent locations to identify relevant reports on your routes. This data stays on your device.
• Device information: Device model, OS version, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility.

Information we do NOT collect

• We do not track your location in the background without your explicit opt-in.
• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
• We do not collect contacts, browsing history, or data from other apps.
• We do not store passwords — we use magic link authentication.

2. How we use your data

• Infrastructure reports: To document issues, identify responsible authorities, and escalate confirmed problems.
• Community verification: To aggregate reports from multiple users to confirm issues.
• Authority escalation: When enough community members report the same issue, we send a professional report to the responsible authority. This includes location, category, severity, report count, fiscal impact projections, and anonymized descriptions. It does NOT include your name, email, or personal information.
• Legal documents: Demand letters and insurance claim packages are generated on your device and shared only when you choose to share them.
• Analytics: Aggregate, anonymized data powers infrastructure health scores, predictive analytics, and public dashboards.
• Crash reporting: Anonymized crash data via Sentry for bug fixes.
• Ads: Banner advertisements via Google AdMob. We do not serve personalized ads by default.

3. Data sharing

We share data only in these circumstances:

• Government authorities: Aggregated, anonymized report data when escalating confirmed issues. Your name and email are never included.
• Public dashboards: Infrastructure health scores, city rankings, and aggregate statistics are publicly visible. No individual user data is exposed.
• Crash reporting: Anonymized crash data with Sentry.
• Ad networks: Google AdMob receives standard ad request data. No personal information shared.
• Legal: If required by law or to protect safety.

We never sell your personal data.

4. Data storage & security

• Data is stored on Supabase (hosted on AWS) with encryption at rest and in transit.
• Photos are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls.
• Row Level Security ensures users can only modify their own data.
• Commute learning data and offline reports are stored on your device only.

5. Your rights

• Access: View all your reports and profile data in the app.
• Delete: Request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing loading....
• Anonymous reporting: Use the app without creating an account.
• Opt-out of tracking: Deny the iOS tracking prompt. Disable proximity alerts and commute learning in settings.
• Data portability: Request an export of your data by emailing us.

6. Children's privacy

Fault Line is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Changes

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted in the app and on this page.
